Hi, I'm Brogen
If you're reading this page then I guess you'd like to know a little bit more about me.
I've put my official bio below incase you want to put it somewhere fancy. Or keep scrolling for some more (possibly) interesting things.
BROGEN MURPHY
graduated with a degree in Zoology from the University of Cambridge and then set about trying to figure out how best to save the world. They tried ecology field work, carbon offsetting and a brief stint in climate activism, before spending fifteen years promoting clean technologies to help build a low-carbon future. When not writing, they can be found exploring the forest with their wife looking (down) for mushrooms or (up) for birds – and therefore often tripping over. Their debut children's novel WILDLANDS is published by Penguin Random House.
I love Nature
-
When I was three i cried for hours because i squashed a snail in the doorframe
-
I grew up watching David Attenborough documentaries
-
When I was 18 I went to South Africa to volunteer on game reserves
-
I went to university to study zoology (same course as David Attenborough, obivously)
-
I don't like to leave the house without my binoculars
-
I try to go on a big long nature walk every day

I love stories (and writing them)
-
I didn't grow up wanting to be a writer (I didn't know you could be)
-
I've always been a big fan of audiobooks and have listened to them at night since I was little (and very much still do!)
-
I must have listened to my favourite stories thousands of times
-
I only started writing stories when I was in my thirties
-
It took me five years to get an agent and a publication deal
-
(It felt amazing when i did manage it - but scary too!)
-
Writing can be really hard. But when I don't do it i'm a less happy person

I love mushrooms
-
I have my wife to thank for this (potentially dangerous!) hobby
-
It's harder to spot birds now we're always looking down for mushrooms
-
I have a list of safety rules (I love rules) so we don't poison ourselves
-
I actually used to not eat any mushrooms (common supermarket types) until I was nearly 30.

I love improv
-
Another dangerous hobby I can blame my wife for!
-
It's very good for me to not be able to plan things
-
It feels like a safe space to express BIG feelings!
-
I did one drop in class a year ago and now we plan our whole lives around classes
-
It's a great way to make (weird) friends
I love my wife!
Felt important to mention because I keep blaming her for things! Here are some more – because of her i . . .
-
Managed to write a book!
-
Always get dragged outside to look at the moon/aurora/the stars/snow . . . (even when i am warm and cosy and don't want to)
-
Swim in lots of cold water (even when I'm warm and cosy and don't want to)
-
am constantly shutting cupboard doors!
-
Laugh every day
-
Am not afraid to by myself
